Summer

june things

middle of june already! it’s basically summer in south bohemia, and you know it because the public art is currently being installed in the square (photos forthcoming).  i wanted to thank you for your honest, enthusiastic, and heartfelt comments about my last post. it was pretty hard to put that one out there because i fully realize that not everyone living in another country (and especially in another language) has an easy go of it, but i’ve always been pretty honest in this space and hope to continue to do so, so that’s just me. that’s what’s going on.

i think sort of a random life lately style post is in order!

last weekend, we spent a day bopping around prague just to get some big-city feels in – the last big city we’ll be in until we head to the airport next month to fly to the states! eating and drinking was high on the list, so we treated ourselves to a delicious lunch at las adelitas, just south of náměstí míru

on americka street because it was time for some mexican food, people! i had previously visited cantina in malá

strana a couple years ago and wanted to see how it stacked up to las adelitas. although cantina was really excellent, i think las adelitas won me over! (also, the waiters were speaking spanish! big ups!)

we mostly hung out in vinohrady and vršovice, and i found what possibly is the most delicious espresso in all of prague at café

jen on kodaňská

. when your iced latte tastes like a s’more, you have a winner. also, the cakes are TO DIE FOR. it is a bit off the beaten track (kind of like my other favorite prague cafe) but if you’re ever in the area or even a little near the area, it’s worth a stop. plus, the girls who work there are so sweet! czech coffee girl squad.

(of course, no prague saturday morning is complete without a visit to one of the many farmer’s markets! you know my favorite…)

there are sometimes where i just kind of get in a rut with certain things in life, but i am happy to say that recently hasn’t been one of those rut times. this is pretty huge, as i have the biggest ruts and funks you could imagine – when it rains, it pours, and right now, the sun is shining.  there’s happily been plenty of music in my life lately (mitski’s recent album on double repeat to the max), lots of books on the coffee table (juuuust about to finish this academic text about czech/german socio-politics through the ages that i’ve been reading for over a freakin’ year because i make myself read these kinds of things), and movies and tv shows regularly being watched. master of none second season is wonderful so far, atlanta is incredible, the bachelorette is OK, although i am mourning the fact that there will be no bachelor in paradise this year. (whiiiine)

still patiently awaiting my first csa vegetable share box of the season – when i asked at the shop when they thought it would begin, the woman only replied with “zatím!” okay thanks, but zatím what? this isn’t helping very much! zatím, end of the month? zatím, end of the week? (don’t worry, i’m used to this by now)
in the meantime, been really into the local produce that has very suddenly flooded the shelves – it’s really a feast or famine situation around here, most of the time. for many weeks, nothing on the shelves but old potatoes and onions, and now we’ve got strawberries! rhubarb (FINALLY), even a sighting of the first local cherries! so many leafy greens!

so i’ve been going a bit crazy enjoying all of those late spring meals that one waits so long to make. i’ve realized my whole meal plan for this week is almost entirely raw meals (!!!), so that should be interesting.

on the do-it-yourself front, i recently posted a little demonstration to sprouting on instastories – that is, growing seed sprouts – in your own kitchen which i’ve been doing for a couple months now, though i have no idea if this is a thing that people are interested in! if so, i could possibly do a post about it. get at me.

less than two more weeks left in the school year and i’m really enjoying the extra time on my hands in this gorgeous warm (but not too hot!) weather we’ve been having lately. june has just been wonderful, lately, and happy to have some travel in at the end of the month – we’ll be seeing one completely new to us city and another much beloved summer tradition spot. (check the ’where am i’ page for all the latest on travel plans and such)

also, this week happened to be alex’s and my second anniversary – which we celebrated with a prague day and going out to an always delicious dinner at our favorite indian place. we didn’t talk about gifts at all, but i (personally) decided i want to give traditional wedding gifts. you know, paper the first year, the second year, cotton… i think it’s such a sweet thing to do through the ages! i mentioned that anniversaries are starting to feel like a really special day – like a birthday. a #lovebirthday. (if applicable: what kinds of anniversary gifts do you give?)

i hope you have wonderful first days of summer! i am looking forward to (as ever) our annual summer solstice picnic – this year determined to be better than ever. have a lovely weekend!

this post is a part of wanderful wednesday.
